Our Approach to Safeguarding
We believe that every human being is created in the image of God and is worthy of love, dignity, and protection. As a church community, we are called to reflect God's care by ensuring that St Mary’s is a place of safety for all.
St Mary’s Camberley fully supports and follows the Church of England’s safeguarding policy:
“Promoting a Safer Church”
We are also committed to adhering to national Church safeguarding guidance and best practices.
Our safeguarding commitment includes:
-
Creating a Safe Environment: We aim to build a church culture where people of all ages feel secure, supported, and listened to.
-
Shared Responsibility: We believe safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility—not just leaders or designated officers, but every member of our church community.
-
Safe Recruitment: All those working (paid or voluntary) with children or vulnerable adults are safely recruited, trained, and supported. This includes DBS checks and reference checks in accordance with Church of England guidance.
-
Responding to Concerns: We act swiftly and appropriately in response to any safeguarding concerns or allegations. We cooperate fully with statutory authorities, including the police and social services, during any investigations.
-
Accountability and Integrity: We are committed to holding those in positions of trust to the highest standards. Abuse of power will be challenged and addressed with transparency and integrity.
-
Caring for Victims: We offer compassionate pastoral support to anyone affected by abuse, listening carefully and working alongside them to provide appropriate care.
-
Managing Risk: Where someone in the church community is known to have caused harm, we will offer supervision, pastoral care, and appropriate boundaries in collaboration with safeguarding authorities.
