Racial Justice at St Mary’s

For God So Loved the World — Racial Justice at St Mary’s

At St Mary’s, we believe the Church is called to reflect the fullness of God’s kingdom — a place where every person is valued, respected, and seen.

We long to be a community that mirrors the beauty of heaven, where people from every nation and background stand together in worship before the throne of God (Revelation 7:9).

We recognise that racism and prejudice still wound individuals and communities, and that the Church is called not to ignore this reality, but to respond in love, humility, and truth. We are committed to listening, learning, and growing as a church family, seeking freedom from the attitudes and structures that perpetuate injustice.

Our Commitment

  • To nurture a culture where everyone can say with confidence, “I belong here.”
  • To ensure that all voices are heard, respected, and celebrated as expressions of God’s image.
  • To embrace diversity not only in attendance but in leadership, worship, and everyday life together.
  • To hold ourselves lovingly accountable as we seek to change patterns of exclusion or bias, and to champion racial justice as a gospel issue.

Our Vision
We long for St Mary’s to be a home where people are safe enough to heal and courageous enough to grow — where our shared life together points towards the kingdom vision of unity, reconciliation, and joy in Jesus Christ.

We thank all who have carried this vision forward so far, and we give thanks to God for the healing, understanding, and transformation we have already begun to see.

If you would like to share ideas, experiences, or reflections on racial justice at St Mary’s, please do speak with a member of our leadership team. Together, we want to continue building a church where everyone is welcomed, valued, and loved — just as Christ welcomes us all.
