Launch of SurreySave Credit Union Outposts & Second Camberley Job Club
The joint launch, on Friday 3rd October 2014, of two Credit Union Outposts in Camberley and a second Camberley Job Club was an amazing day for both St Mary’s and St Michael’s.
Rev’d Andrew Knowles was delighted to be able to welcome guests to St Mary’s for this special occasion.
Attending the launch were Rt Hon Michael Gove (MP for Surrey Heath), Mayor Bob Paton, local Councillors, Clergy from St Michael’s Camberley, along with representatives from the various trusts and foundations who provided financial support, CEO and other staff from Surrey Save Credit Union, Job Club volunteers and many, many more.
Financial support had been received from Community Foundation for Surrey (CFFS) and the Bishop of Guildford’s Foundation. CFFS started 9 years ago and manages funds of over £8 million inspires local philanthropy. Last year grants of £475,000 were awarded.
The Bishop of Guildford’s Foundation was set up in the 1990’s by Bishop Michael Adie and has been supported by successive Bishops. The Foundation has around £50,000 per annum to give out to projects such as this.
A buffet lunch and a fabulous celebratory cake were provided by Waitrose in Frimley. For the ceremonial cutting of the cake Mr Gove and Mr Paton were joined by Sally Tyler, a volunteer representing the Camberley Job Club, and Michael Paddock, Treasurer from Surrey Save Credit Union.
