Summer holidays are usually a quieter time at St Mary’s but not so this year. Instead we’ve swapped peace and tranquillity for noise and disruption as contractors have been fitting our brand new kitchen.
At the end of July our old kitchen was ripped out, leaving us with just an empty shell. In due course this will be replaced by a top notch catering standard kitchen for our church and local community to use.
The works have also involved major changes to the warm air heating system in our church hall. To create extra space in the kitchen we’ve rerouted the venting system so that it enters the hall at a different access point and installed ceiling fans in the hall to help circulate the warm air.
We are truly grateful to our team of contractors who have been doing amazing work for us, bringing our plans into a reality.
Major works such as we are doing come at a high price for St Mary’s. Our Church Council has committed to this work going ahead and we have been very fortunate to have been given a grant by Surrey County Council of £30,000 towards the cost of this project.
Local company S C Johnson have also generously donated £5,000 and £1,500 has been received from the charity All Churches Trust Limited, and we are exceedingly grateful to all our donors for their support.
We have applied for more funding from a variety of sources and hope that these will be successful in the coming months.
As a people of faith, our church members have also been contributing financially towards the project. We are truly blessed by their kindness and generosity and support for what we are doing at St Mary’s.
You can support St Mary’s too! We welcome all donations to the kitchen fund and these can be sent to David Reed, Community Network Officer, at St Mary’s Church.
Here are some pictures of the kitchen showing the work in progress and more pictures will be posted very soon to show the completed new kitchen.
