Hearing Champion at St Mary’s

Hearing Aid Aftercare in the Community

Do you have an NHS hearing aid?  Taking care of your hearing aid means it will work better, last longer, and maybe save you unnecessary trips to your audiologist.

We are pleased to announce we now have a Hearing Champion, NHS trained by the audiology department at the Royal Surrey Hospital, available each month to carry out basic maintenance to NHS hearing aids.

A drop-in clinic will be held on the first Wednesday of each month at St Mary’s Church, from 12 noon to 2pm.  This is a FREE service for people with NHS hearing aids and includes basic maintenance, battery supply, cleaning and re-tubing, trouble-shooting and advice.

Please remember to bring your brown NHS Battery Book (which includes your settings and requirements) and don’t forget your hearing aid.

A Guildford Diocese initiative, in partnership with the NHS and St Mary’s Church in Camberley

Gabriel’s Message from Hubble

For those who were unable to make it to the St Mary’s Hubble Enterprise showing of Gabriel’s Message, we’re pleased to tell you that we have made a film available, which we’ve published on our YouTube Channel.

It was the final performance for The Hubble Community Enterprise Team, having completely an amazing 10 years and reaching well over 15,00 young people.

We managed to film the show and capture a presentation about the fantastic work the Team has achieved.

Redecoration of the Hall

The redecoration of the hall at St Mary’s was undertaken as it is the busiest part of our Church Centre used by so many different groups including our own pre-school St Mary’s Nursery,  Uniformed organisations (Beavers/Cubs/Scouts), Alzheimer Café, Women’s Institute, U3A groups, WeightWatchers and many more!

Having refurbished the floor and bought new chairs the rest of the hall was beginning to look sad and tired and desperately in need of a repaint.  Having a very high ceiling which can only be reached by a scaffolding tower it’s not an easy area to paint.

We only had a window of a few days in which to get the job done and didn’t know if our small team of volunteers from St Mary’s would be able to complete the task in the time.

Along came Morgan Sindall Community Activity Initiative to the rescue.  They supplied a team of 3 decorators to work alongside our volunteers to transform this huge space.

The difference they made is unbelievable.  We still have to pinch ourselves when we look at the before and after photographs since the difference is so remarkable.

Comments from our Network Officer

David Reed, who co-ordinated the project, stated “We were impressed at the way the team got on with the job in such a determined and cheerful way.  It is difficult to choose from the many positive comments that have been made, but the following best summarise our delight.

The Morgan Sindall Team were friendly, professional and efficient and have painted our hall to an excellent standard.

They were a joy to be around.  I was very impressed with their standard of work;  fast, efficient, a superb finished job and no mess! I’d have them paint my house any time.”

As if this wasn’t enough, the team announced that they would have finished this project early – was there any more they could do? Remarkable!  The bonus was repainting one of our Centre rooms, and completing repainting of another so that we now have 3 completely repainted areas for our church family and community to enjoy. All areas were prepared and repainted to an exceptionally high standard.

“Thank you Morgan Sindall, you have provided us with premises to be proud of and a great venue for our community to enjoy.”

Volunteers Wanted!

St Mary’s Nursery are looking for motivated individuals to become part of a team to deliver a valuable building project to the Camberley community. We have been awarded a unique opportunity to expand and move into a park setting. This will enable us to continue to deliver essential Early Years development to local children of all backgrounds, including those with special needs.

We need to bring together a project team of skilled professionals to make this happen, on a voluntary basis, and ensure our new setting is built on time and budget.  As such we have an information sharing evening planned on  25th November.

Please help spread the word by sharing this post on your Facebook page, Twitter feed and any other social media platforms you may use. Thank You and we hope to see you on the 25th November at St Mary’s Church and Centre.

Church weekend away (at home)

We had a fantastic weekend at St Mary’s, Camberley with Michael Harvey from Unlocking the Growth Trust as our guest speaker.

Michael spoke about how we can be an invitational church and we explored why some of us find inviting people so difficult. There was plenty of time for conversations around the table punctuated with coffee breaks with fresh Danish pastries.

On Sunday, Michael spoke at both services and challenged us to invite a friend to an event. We had a Question and Answers session followed by a lunch together. Thank you Michael for challenging and inspiring us. We look forward to seeing you in February 2016.

The Big Spruce Up – Orchard Way playground

Church and community truly came together recently when members from St Mary’s joined with local residents to rejuvenate the playground at Orchard Way, on the James Road Estate in Camberley.

Preparation of the site and priming had been done earlier in the month, so everything was ready for the group of willing volunteers which showed up on the morning of Saturday 20th June on a mission to complete the job.

Despite the threat of rain we all set to with our brushes and pots of brightly coloured paint to bring a new lease of life to the railings and the playground equipment.

Paul Deach from the Surrey Heath Residents Network had been keeping an eye on the project in the preceding weeks and popped in during the morning eager to see how work was progressing.

To listen to a podcast with Rev Andrew Knowles and Lisa McSweeney and to see more pictures of the day visit http://surreyheath-residents.co.uk.

When it eventually arrived the rain didn’t dampen our enthusiasm one little bit and when lunchtime came we were treated to a BBQ provided by Waitrose in Frimley and prepared by church members Darren & Sue Duplock and ably assisted by Denis McSweeney.

A sweet treat arrived courtesy of La-di-dah Cakery which was greatly enjoyed by everyone, particularly the youngsters!

A big thank you to everyone involved in such a fabulous day and we’re all looking forward to how we can work together in the future for our local community.
